Lithium Spit is a new project from Matthew Mullane, an American musician currently residing in the Netherlands who has dabbled in many styles over the years including improvisational guitar, field recording and musique concrète, with releases on a variety of renowned experimental labels like Editions Mego and Opal Tapes...all relevant developments that have informed his current approach to sound composition.

However, "Self Extraction" is his first foray into proper Harsh Noise. Exploring the twin themes of ecological and technological catastrophe. Using synthesizers, tape, and effects, the work was made while imagining what it sounds like deep under the soil when rare minerals are being carved out of the Earth.

Understanding his past can help make sense of how well executed and super dynamic "Self Extraction" is, and so another useful tidbit of information is that Matthew grew up in Cleveland, OH and then later lived in Tokyo -- both places exposing him to great examples of Harsh Noise...giving him many years to contemplate and cultivate his return to the roots of what initially sparked his interest in the genre.
