about

Roman Marble is an exciting under the radar project from Japan, who I first discovered after their submission to the "Hidden Promulgation" compilation awhile back (and that track actually ended up being one of my favorites on there). I have been eagerly anticipating this full length release ever since, and it does not disappoint.

Past efforts were more HNW based (and equally good) but this one is a departure from the confines of that style in favor of a more free and experimental approach. While you can still hear the rumbling and crackling of previous work, this one also utilizes a bunch of other aspects of the genre without limiting itself to anything specific.

These tracks don't feel spontaneous or thrown together at all. On the contrary, they sound very rehearsed and prepared and the production is crisp and full with lots of layers and depth.

There are some great surprises thrown in here like heavily processed Prurient-esque vocals drowning in molten feedback, lots of tape manipulation and even some techniques normally only found in Cut-Up noise...lots of dynamics, sequencing and hard panning...but it's overall pace is a smoldering slow burn.

Highly recommended for some serious headphone listening.
